Info from Reward Pest

Small non-flying Cockroaches such as German and Smoky brown live withing dark & damp spaces and may also be within wall cavities where the plumbing pipes lead up to the top floor units. These type of roaches are treated by gel baits only as sprays will not get rid of them easily.  The gel baits have growth regulators in it that will stop their reproductive cycle and will cause them to die out.

Regarding Cockroaches Internal:

(mostly associated with German cockroaches and Smokey brown banded cockroaches)

These roaches can be brought in by accident via cardboard boxes as they can lay their eggs in them, They are also known to live in areas as described in the pictures here below.

These roaches are:

Small Cockroaches – normally found indoors

Brown-banded Cockroach

Brown banded cockroach
Found mostly indoors but scattered throughout a dwelling, not just the kitchen. Prefers drier areas in furniture (bookcases, desks, wardrobes), around picture frames, light fittings, among stored files & paper, etc.

German Cockroach

German cockroach
Found mostly indoors, and prefer a moist, warm environment close to food, such as kitchens. In the kitchen they will be found in food storerooms, stoves, refrigerators, sinks, water heaters.

Smokybrown Cockroach

Smokybrown cockroach
Found mostly outdoors and prefers plant materials. Often a pest in nurseries, garages, woodpiles, sub floors, roof & wallvoids, around drains & under garden mulch. Sometimes attracted to light at night.

Regarding Cockroaches exterior:

The outside cockroach Spray / treatment will cover mostly these LARGE flying roaches as seen here below – they normally do not enter dwellings but can wonder into dwellings by accident. The exterior spray will not affect the small non-flying roaches such as smoky brown and German cockroaches.

Large Cockroaches – normally roams outdoors

Australian CockroachAustralian cockroach
Prefers food of plant origin, hence found mostly outdoors in areas that offer moist, decaying vegetable matter & plant materials. They can be found under bark of trees, among woodpiles, sub floors, wall voids, garages & sheds.

American CockroachAmerican cockroach
Prefers warm, moist and dark conditions such as those found in sub-floors, roof & wall voids, cellars, grease traps, sewers, in and around garbage areas. Commonly infest food stores &warehouses, restaurants, hospitals, and other food handling areas.

Oriental CockroachOriental cockroach
Prefers cool environments, hence mainly found outdoors in damp sub-floors or around drainage systems. It is usually located at or below ground level in buildings.

Wood Cockroach Wood cockroaches live outdoors but often find their way into buildings.                           usual habitat for these cockroaches is outdoors, they often appear in homes, especially in wooded settings. These are primarily outdoor cockroaches, living beneath loose bark in woodpiles, fallen logs, and dead trees. They cannot survive indoors, but can be an annoyance during the spring and summer when large numbers wander in from outside. They are also brought into homes during winter in firewood. Large numbers of woods cockroaches are sometimes found nesting in rain gutters and crawl spaces. Male wood cockroaches are excellent fliers, and both sexes are attracted to lights.

THIS IS WHY WE RECOMMEND THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURE:

With having German cockroaches inside the house – once off treatments will not rid the problem.  German cockroaches can cause an infestation in as much as 4 weeks.

Properties with an infestation of German cockroaches will need a 2nd Treatment in at least 4-8 weeks cycles to break the reproduction cycle.  In severe cases some properties will need a 3rd treatment if needed.
